Why Lake Faak is well worth cycling

Carinthia is one of Austria's densest cycling regions, and Lake Faak lies right in the middle of it. From Strandhotel Faak right on the southern shore you set off by the water in the morning, take a leisurely lake loop or add a day on the great long-distance cycle paths – and in the evening you're back on your own private beach.

In this article we sort the options by level: the flat loop around the lake, the connection to the long-distance cycle paths and the sportier routes in the mountains. Everything else about charging, storage and location can be found on our page Active & Cycling at Lake Faak.

Question 2 · Further afield

How do I get onto the great long-distance cycle paths?

Lake Faak lies within reach of Villach – Carinthia's cycling hub, where many important cycle paths come together. From here you can reach the Drau Cycle Path (R1), which runs for 366 kilometres from Toblach in Italy to Maribor in Slovenia and has been awarded five stars by the ADFC – one of the finest river cycle paths in Europe. The Gailradweg and the cross-border Alpe-Adria Cycle Path are also within reach of the region.

Handy: with the region's bike buses you and your bike can travel comfortably to the starting points of popular routes – these can be used with the Erlebnis CARD included with us. Read more in the article Drau Cycle Path from Lake Faak.
